UPDATE: As of January 10 2024, Brazil will require the Electronic Visa (eVisa) as a mandatory entry permit for citizens of the United States, Australia, and Canada for them to visit the country. For more information about this update, follow this link.
Citizens of the US, Japan, Canada and Australia are now eligible to apply for the Brazilian e-visa for tourism and business. This new development makes it possible for citizens of these 4 countries to legally enter Brazil without the hassle of visiting a Brazilian consulate or embassy.
The process is not only simpler, but also cheaper and faster. The cost for the e-visa is now $40 US Dollars in the US versus the $160 for the standard tourism or business visa process. And the best part is that your visa should be electronically issued within 5 business day of successfully finishing the online application! All you need to do is print the document Brazilian authorities send you at the end of the process and you’re ready to go! This is a particularly useful turn of events as rush visas before would take upwards of 2 to 3 weeks to be issued.
The e-visa is valid for up to two years, but for a maximum stay of only 90 days per year. The traditional visa expedition process is still available at the Brazilian consulates for travelers in need of a more extended stay. You can apply for the Brazilian e-visa here.
